La transformation d’un quartier

Ten years ago, the Forges district was an almost abandoned former industrial area. Several factories had closed, and many buildings had remained empty. The city launched a major renovation program after consulting residents. Some warehouses were converted into housing, while other buildings became artists’ studios, a library, and a school. Trees were planted along the streets, and a bicycle lane connected the district to the city center. The project created new jobs and attracted young families. However, some long-time residents regret the increase in rents and fear they may no longer be able to stay. The city is now trying to protect a number of affordable homes. This experience shows that urban transformation can improve the environment, but it must also preserve social diversity.

Hace diez años, el barrio de las Forges era una antigua zona industrial casi abandonada. Varias fábricas habían cerrado y muchos edificios habían quedado vacíos.
